“The world is in a bit of a weird place right now, and it’s affecting our health, communities, livelihoods and so much more. It’s hard to live in times of uncertainty, yet it is forcing all of us to slow down. Maybe we can use this time of trouble to focus on what is truly important; to be present, to be calm, to be kind to others, and to the planet.”

As much as we would like to say that the world will be free from the novel coronavirus which is causing the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, we can safely say that we are far from it. The virus is here to stay and till a vaccination is developed by next year, safety, distancing, and isolation is the best way to overcome the exposure. The pandemic knows no borders and while some countries have high cases like the USA, India, and Brazil, some have reduced them such as Taiwan, New Zealand, there are others who till some time ago were Covid-19 free mainly island nations.
Here is a list of countries that were free from Covid-19 till June 2020:
North Korea – The isolated country ruled by a young dictator Mr. Kim Jong-un claims to have zero cases. As the country is very secretive and news information not easy to access, we have to take their word for it. Though experts believe otherwise that the possibility of 0 cases is rare.
Turkmenistan – It borders the Caspian Sea of Central Asia and is a developing economy. Run by an autocratic regime, press freedom is limited and news of the virus is strictly controlled. It is increasingly finding its place in the lucrative tourism market. Its medical infrastructure is quite basic and limited and may not be able to cope with the ravages of the pandemic.
Solomon Islands - The country has no cases as yet but risk levels are in this poor island nation in the Oceania region. The isolation of island nations is one of the reasons for their being reported low cases or none. The government is on the guard to ensure the virus does not sweep the developing economy.
American Samoa – Very little is known in India about this island nation In the Oceania region except those who are into the sport of rugby. Its decision to seal itself off from the world has resulted in its safety. Life in this idyllic isle is chugging along through all safety precautions that are in place.
Nauru – North East of Australia is the tiny island republic of Nauru. Its friendly people, beaches and reefs are popular with tourists from the world over. Measuring under 8 square miles, it is considered to be the smallest island nation in the world.
These 5 listed countries are among the few who are currently free of the virus. Some other honorable mentions in the list are the Marshall Islands, Palau, Tuvalu, and Kiribati. These are beautiful island nations waiting to be explored when the world is free to travel and enjoyed again.
