Canadian language benchmark (clb)
Canadian language benchmark is the national standard for measuring the candidate’s proficiency in English as a second language for living and working in Canada. This task-based tool primarily focuses on language skills, which include listening, reading, writing and speaking and are measured through levels 1-12. CLB consists of 3 stages – stage 1, which covers basic language ability (benchmarks 1-4), stage 2, which covers intermediate language ability (benchmarks 5-8) and finally stage 3, which covers advanced language ability (benchmarks 6-12).
Each of the benchmarks in place determines the candidate’s skills and grasp over the English language. It’s essential to understand the meaning behind each level, to be able to look for work or universities suitable to your needs in Canada.
