Alberta Immigration Streams
If you’re planning to immigrate to Alberta, you have five options mentioned below to choose from:
- Alberta Opportunity Stream for skilled workers who are currently working in an eligible occupation in Alberta.
- Alberta Express Entry Stream for candidates in the Express Entry (EE) system who have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 300, and who are currently working in an eligible occupation.
- Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream for those who wish to operate a farming business
- International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream for international graduates of a designated post-secondary institution in Alberta, who wish to start a business in Alberta.
- Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway
Alberta Opportunity Stream
Alberta Express Entry Program is a point-based immigration program that provides a pathway to permanent residency for eligible skilled immigrants who want to live and work in Alberta. Individuals who have been able to demonstrate ties to Alberta and have the right skills to contribute to the province’s workforce and economic growth are invited by the province to submit an application.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream is by invitation only. A Notification of Interest (NOI) from the Alberta government is sent directly to candidates who have Express Entry profiles in the federal system. Invited candidates then have a limited amount of time to make a decision if they are interested in being considered for selection under this stream.
If selected, candidates receive a request from the AINP to apply for provincial nomination by submitting all required documents through the AINP online portal.
The Minimum Requirements through this program are:
- Must be in the Express Entry pool;
- Must have expressed interest in immigrating to Alberta permanently;
- Must be working in an occupation that supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification;
- A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.
You can receive 600 extra points with a valid LMIA job offer from an employer in Alberta.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
In this program any foreign national who is working in Alberta and international graduates who have completed their studies at an approved Alberta post-secondary institution are qualified to apply for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
The Self-Employed Farmer Stream is for candidates interested in immigrating to Alberta to purchase or start a farming business. This program is designed for those who have extensive farming experience, are interested in becoming self-employed and who have the ability to provide a significant contribution to the province’s economy.
Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway
The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway is an initiative to help tech companies and other employers in Alberta to fill their talent gaps. The program offers a two-year diploma in computer programming, software engineering, or cybersecurity.
International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream
Alberta’s International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream is for international graduates who have studied in approved Alberta post-secondary institutions and are now interested in establishing or operating a business in Alberta.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is an immigration program that can be used to gain permanent residency in the province of Alberta.
