Alberta Opportunity Stream
In this program any foreign national who is working in Alberta and international graduates who have completed their studies at an approved Alberta post-secondary institution are qualified to apply for a provincial nomination under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Processing time: Approximately 8 months
How it works:
All candidates who are interested in the Alberta Opportunity Stream are required to complete their application online through the AINP online portal. After that, candidates will be asked to submit specific documents and pay the online application fee.
To be able to enter the Aberta Opportunity Stream the minimum requirements are :
- Must have a valid work permit;
- Must be working in an eligible occupation in Alberta that matches your work experience;
- A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 4 or 5 depending on occupation
- A minimum of a high school degree;
- A minimum of 1 year of work experience in Alberta in the last 1.5 years, or a minimum of 2 years of work experience in Canada in the last 2.5 years.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
The Self-Employed Farmer Stream is for candidates interested in immigrating to Alberta to purchase or start a farming business. This program is designed for those who have extensive farming experience, are interested in becoming self-employed and who have the ability to provide a significant contribution to the province’s economy.
How it works:
All interested candidates first have to submit their business plan to the Alberta government, and wait to receive a decision.
The AINP bases its decision on the fact that the business plan is feasible and it meets the needs of Alberta’s agricultural industry. It does this with the help of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry,in case a positive decision is received, you must then gather the required documents and fill in the required forms for both the Alberta government and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
The Minimum Requirements for one to be eligible under this program are :
- Farm management skills;
- Sufficient financial resources (minimum investment of CAD $500,000);
- Investment plans documented in a proposed business plan.
International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream
Alberta’s International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream is for international graduates who have studied in approved Alberta post-secondary institutions and are now interested in establishing or operating a business in Alberta.
How this works:
Interested candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the Alberta Immigration Nominee Program online portal.
You will receive your EOI score within 30 days and the highest-ranking candidates will have to submit a Business Application.
A Business Application must be submitted within 90 days of receiving an email asking you to submit one. Along with which you must also submit all required documents
The minimum requirements of the program are:
- At least two years full time education in Alberta;
- A valid Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) at time of application;
- A minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 7;
Must establish a new business or operate an existing business with at least 34% ownership.
Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway
The Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway is an initiative to help tech companies and other employers in Alberta to fill their talent gaps. The program offers a two-year diploma in computer programming, software engineering, or cyber-security.
